Welcome Back!!!!

Welcome back! This is my first personel post on this blog since… well ever. It is nice being the top dog in this school.

This summer went on a vacation to Indiana to see  my moms side of the family. While I was there I did a lot of fishing. I caught the biggest bass I have ever caught. I had also caught a bullhead catfish. I tried grabing it by the mouth… bad idea. I did some more fishing with my grandpa. We went fishing for bluegill one day we caught enough for my mom to cook up and if you didn’t know bluegill are the 2nd best tasting fish. The next day we went fishing for walleye and perch. We caught a couple of perch then we caught a big mess of bluegill. By the time we got back we got caught in a HUGE thunder storm. You could barely see more than 10 feet. The next day after the rain cleared up we played goasts in the graveyard and sardenes with my cousins.

Then we went to Cedar point and with some of our cousins. The first ride we went on was the Raptor. It was super cool since that was the first ride I had been on since I was 6. I got super dizzy after that. The coolest ride we went on was the dragster it went from 0 to 120 in 4 seconds and the ride only lasted 20 seconds. You go so fast that you are not allowed to put your arms in the air because you could break your arms!

The next place we went to was the Dells. There were so many waterparks! We stayed in huge condos by a channel connected to a lake. On the first day we went to noahs ark. The first ride we went on was called dark voyage. It was pitch black the whole ride! The next ride we went on was called the scorpion. You got locked up in a capsule then it would count down from 3 and on 1 the floor would drop out from under you and you would do almost a full looptyloop! The next day we rented a speed boat and a pontoon. The pontoon was fun but you couldn’t fall off. Until my dad decided we would do a game called tube wars. The game describes itself. You try to knock off the person without getting knocked off. The first time I wasn’t allowed to knock off my cousin but he could do it to me so he won the first 2. But the next couple I won easy. The third day we went back to ark. My goal was to ride on all the rides. First we went on the black anaconda. It is the longest water slide in the world! I went on the scorpion and I also rode on a slide called the point of no return. You go almost strait down about 200 feet! They also had an awesome wave pool. There was waves almost 8 feet!

And that was my summer. 😀

The Exploding Rocket!

Materials: Balloon, and tape.

Problem: The balloon poping problem

Focus Question: What variable is causing the balloon to pop.

We think the direction they pulled the tape made it go boom.

We will pull the tape from differant angles

First we had to think of the way that would give us the most probibialty. We thought that pulling  the tape forward would give us our best chance.

So first we tried  pulling the tape at 90 degrees and the balloon didn’t pop. Then at 70 degrees and it still didn’t pop. Next we did the same thing at 45 degrees and we got the same result. Then We tried pulling the tape at 10 degrees and it finaly poped.

I think even though we made the balloon pop I think that the direction they pulled the tape didn’t cause the balloon to pop because they would have to pull the tape at 10 degrees to make the balloon to pop and pulling that at that low was hard and would rather pull the tape at a higher degree.

Rocket Engineering Test #1

Vocabulary: Motion, Force, and Gravity

Materials: Paper cup, balloon, 2 straws, baggie, paper clips, tape, and clothes pin.

Problem: get the most paper clips into space using only 1 rocket

Focus Question: What is a factor for getting into space

Answer: I think the most inportant factor is thrust.

Work Time

Work Time in Mr. D’s class

By: Ethan Evans

I imagine a world where no one knew how to work efficiently, would you like to live in that world? I’m going to teach you how to be successful during work time. First, you get out your work plan, and then you get your computer out and log in. While the computer is logging in get your handwriting out and work on that. After one page of handwriting your computer should be finished loading, then your go on to Mr. D’s site and scroll down to data folder work and click on math facts. It should take you about 6 minutes to finish. After finishing math facts go to typing and work on that for about 10 minutes. Once you have finished typing, go to geography and work on that for about 10 more minutes. After all that is done you can do any overdue work, or Saxon Math, or of course read.

What to Put in a Time Capsule

By: Ethan

Time capsules are super fun to make. Some things I might put in a time capsule is information and pictures of vehicles, information about what we do to amuse ourselves, and information about modern electronics. Now it’s time to put things in the time capsule.

If I was going to have a time capsule I would want to have information and pictures about vehicles because they are our center source of transportation. I want to have information about cars because they are our main source of land transportation. I would also want information about planes because they are our central source of air transportation.

Another important thing to put in the time capsule is information about what we use to amuse ourselves. One thing that might be in the time capsule is the Xbox because it is probably the most commonly used video game. There should also be info about sports we play because we don’t only watch sports but we also play them. There should also be information about modern music because it is one of the most common things to do when we are bored

Other things that I think should be in the time capsule are electronics. I think one of the most important things about electronics is the computer because it is very popular use of sharing info. I also think information about the television should be in there because it is probably the most commonly used electronic in the world. There should also be information about the phone because that is the most popular use of communication.

That’s why I think you should have information and pictures about vehicles, amusement, and electronics. I hope that gives you some ideas for what to put in a time capsule.

So you decided you want a pet but what pet do you want? I think that that a dog is one of the best pets you can have. Did you know that about 68% of all pet owners have dogs? Now it’s time to go down to the animal shelter and find the perfect pet for you.

Every living organism needs food and water and dogs are no exception. You can find dog food in almost any store. Depending on the size of the dog you should feed your dog 1 to 3 cups a day. And you should refill your dog’s water bowl daily.

You should always try to keep your dog happy. Your dog will be much happier if you play with it. So you should take you dog out every 2 hours to play with it. A ball or a stick would be a perfect toy and if you add water to the equation your dog will just be that much happier.

Now that I have taught you how to decide what pet to take care of, what to feed your pet, and how to keep is happy enjoy a great, loyal companion for the next ten years.

Why Wolves Howl at the Moon

By: Ethan Evan

The faint sounds thump thump, thump thump, the majestic stride of a grey wolf, he just picked up the smell of a wild black bear. He howled twice to the rest of his pack to signal that he picked up a sent, the race was on, jumping over logs, ducking under small trees. “Raven, fly ahead and tell me where the bear is,” Bob barked. “Got it,” Raven chirped. Raven quickly sored ahead and quickly spotted the large black bear galloping 100 yards away. The raven dove back down to Bob and said “He’s about 100 yards away.” After hearing that information it gave him a sudden boost of adrenalin with the pack close behind him. Finally the bear was in sight and he knew it was just a matter of time. After trailing the bear for half an hour the Bob managed to grab hold of a leg of the bear and slowed the bear down and then the rest of the pack quickly caught up and killed the bear.

After bringing the bear back to the cave they had to start a fire, get the correct piece of meat, cook the meat, and serve the meat all for Mother Nature. She was very rood the wolves, making them her slaves. The wolves would just quit helping Mother Nature but she could just destroy all the wolves in an instant. So the wolves were stuck with being slaves forever, or so they thought.

It was night time the only time the wolves weren’t being slaves to Mother Nature. “Man it’s a pretty full moon tonight,” Bob admitted. “It sure is,” Billy agreed. “I wish we could just reason with Mother Nature so we could have freedom” Joe whimpered. “Hey, that gives me an idea!” Bob exclaimed. “What is it?” Both Joe and Billy asked. Then bob called Raven. “What,” Raven asked. “Can you try and reason with Mother Nature,” Bob asked. “I’ll do my best,” Raven assured.

Later that night when the moon was shining high and bright in the sky Raven flew over to Mother Nature’s little house. “Hey, Mother Nature!” Raven squawked. “What,” She asked. “If we worship you every night by howling at every full moon will you give the wolves freedom?” Raven wishfully asked. “Um, ok but first you must catch me another bear,” Mother Nature Demanded. “Ok, we will get you that bear in an instant,” Raven chirped.

‘Hey guys! Guess what! If you howl at the moon every full moon and catch her one more bear than you guys are free!” Raven pride fully chirped. “Thanks Raven you’re the best!” Bob, Billy, and Jo barked. The next day the dog caught the biggest bear in the woods and happily served it to Mother Nature. After that the wolves run off to find a new cave to call home. Later that night there was a full moon and all the wolves stood on the highest hill in the area and howled their brains out.

Since that day forward wolves have been howling at the moon from that day forward. And that is the true story of why wolves howl at the moon.
